Welcome to Red Dish Kitchen

Welcome to Red Dish Kitchen!

I’m Heidi and I am happy you stopped by. A little about me…

After the adoption of our first son in 2013, I became a full-time mom and now am the happy mom of two busy little boys. I spend all my days with the Mini Taste Testers and feel so fortunate to be a stay-at-home mom and wife to the Chief Taste Tester. It’s the job I feel I have waited for my whole life.

I now live in rural Saskatchewan, but grew up on a small Alberta farm. I loved farm life and hold close it’s traditions as they have influenced and moulded me. While the opportunity to do farm work and spend time outside was all mine, I was more interested in spending time in the kitchen. It was fun for me to make meals or bake for my family. Mom says she can remember me making full meals when I was as young as 11 years old.

Our life is so much different now than when I was working full-time as a Human Resources Manager and was at the office so many hours of the day. I enjoy my profession very much, but in the years since being at home, I have rediscovered my love for cooking and creating beautiful, belly filling, heart-warming, tradition making food.

Becoming a meal planner has helped me to enjoy grocery shopping, be more creative and organized with my meals and ultimately motivated me to start blogging.

I have enjoyed cookbooks since I was young and read them like novels looking for the perfect recipes to try (of course now I have food blogs to read ogle over too). I also love dishes – red ones in particular! I’ve created quite the collection over the years so naturally they inspired the name Red Dish Kitchen.

I hope you will enjoy following along with this journal of home cooked creations and try some of my recipes in your home. They really are ‘Everyday Recipes for Everyday Families.’ I am a self-taught cook, but I can’t say that I haven’t had some very special cooks as influences. I am proud to call them my mentors and refer to them as Mom, Grandma, Aunty, Cousin, Neighbour and Friend.

I’d love to hear your comments and am happy to answer any questions. Feel free to email me at heidi (at) reddishkitchen (dot) com. I look forward to being on this journey with you.

Happy Cooking…

Heidi
